FORMER BSPA president and chairman Terry Russell has died at the age of 75.
The Londoner, who was one of speedway's most prominent promoters through four decades since taking over his first club Crayford in 1981, passed away suddenly on Wednesday of last week. Russell, an influential figure at the head of the sport in Britain after becoming BSPA chairman in 1996, also promoted at Hackney, Arena-Essex, Eastbourne, Exeter and Swindon. He played an integral role in taking the Speedway Grand Prix to Cardiff's Millennium Stadium in 2001 and led the negotiations with Sky Sports for speedway's first TV deal in 1999. There will be a full tribute to Terry in this week's Speedway Star.
