BARTOSZ Zmarzlik regained the World Championship lead with victory in a dramatic Polish GP in Wroclaw on Saturday night that was delayed by around two-and-a-half hours.
The meeting looked almost certain to be called off after torrential rain and thunderstorms of biblical proportions flooded the Olympic Stadium. The local fire brigade were called into action to pump the water away and against all the odds, the fifth round of this year's series did go ahead. The meeting was marred by a nasty first bend accident in Heat 7 involving Kacper Woryna, Jason Doyle and Jack Holder, which resulted in Holder being taken to hospital with a broken arm which potentially will end his season. Doyle was described as "battered and bruised" by his British club Belle Vue and will miss Aces' Premiership fixture against Ipswich on Monday night. Zmarzlik eventually prevailed at the end of a long night, winning the final from Britain's Robert Lambert, Denmark's Michael Jepsen Jensen and pre-meeting leader Brady Kurtz, who now trails Zmarzlik by three points in the overall standings.
