THE Championship Grand Final will be contested by Poole and Scunthorpe.
The Scorpions overcame Glasgow in Friday night's semi-final, second leg, at Ashfield to reach their first Final since they were crowned league champions in 2012. Chasing a 16-point deficit, Glasgow had pulled six points back by mid-meeting as they led 24-18 after Heat 7 but a Scunthorpe 5-1 in Heat 8 from guest Jody Scott and Connor Mountain was a major blow to Tigers' chances. When Scorpions' No. 1 Josh Pickering beat Chris Harris in Heat 11 to lead a 4-2 with Scott which left the scores at 34-32, the North Lincolnshire outfit were all but there – and Michael Palm Toft sealed the deal with a second place in Heat 14. Scorpions team manager David Howe said: “It feels pretty good. It’s been a tense old meeting, and tough on a few of our riders. I feel a bit sorry for Connor because we burnt him out halfway through the meeting! “The boys did the work at Scunthorpe to be honest, but to keep it so close tonight, I’m really happy. “We’re not a massive club and the last Grand Final we made was in 2012. Everybody chips in and works hard, it’s a very family-run club so to make the Final is special.” Glasgow boss Cami Brown said: “The damage was done in the first leg earlier in the month. We tried our best to try and get Scunthorpe on the rack a bit and put some pressure on them. However, the Heat 8 5-1 for them killed the tie." PICTURE: LANNONEWS
