ROBERT Lambert has become the ninth British rider to be crowned World Champion.
In a dramatic conclusion to the 2026 series, the 28-year-old from Norfolk won Saturday night's Grand Prix on his home Torun track, beating main rivals Brady Kurtz and Bartosz Zmarzlik in the final. Lambert finished two points clear of Zmarzlik overall, with Kurtz, runner-up to Zmarzlik last year, having to settle for the bronze medal. Lambert said: “It was unbelievable to win it in my home stadium. I’ve had some bad GPs here in Torun and a little bit of bad luck. “It was tough coming here, with everyone saying that my GPs here have been terrible. But I’m absolutely on fire in the league. At least I was able to be consistent like I am in the league. “It’s still sinking in, and it probably won’t sink in for a couple of days. I’m super happy. I never expected or planned to do what happened in the second half of the season." • Full coverage of Lambert's title triumph in Speedway Star this week – on sale on Thursday.
