"I am a Cheetahs fan. I grew up in Oxford and up until recently, I had stood in the same place on turn four since I was a tiny boy going up there with my dad. As a kid, it was the highlight of my week when we got to go up to the speedway at Sandy Lane." Mike Austin and Spencer Timmo talk about their roles in Oxford's new management structure.
FLAT OUT FOR FUN
"Speedway got to the point where I didn't know what I was doing wrong. I was lost, I didn't know what to do. I just wanted to have fun and I wasn't having fun. I knew I had to have a break but I don’t regret it. I don't regret anything I do." Former Oxford, King's Lynn and Glasgow rider Ashton Boughen has turned to flat track for his racing fix after quitting speedway, but doesn't rule out a return to the shale in the future.
FIELD TRIP
"I have an exam every day this week, so there is a lot going on, for sure. It's going to be tough to balance it all but because everything is happening so fast, we'll make it happen. In speedway, things always seem so unrealistic but that's the speedway life, and I think that's what makes it so exciting. I thank GB for the opportunity. I can't wait to get out there in a GB race suit." Cooper Rushen is no different to any other 16-year-old sitting GCSE exams this week – apart from the small matter of representing his country in the Speedway of Nations 2 in Prague on Friday!
