"Referees are human and they can make mistakes just like anyone else. There will be times when you make a call that can be argued both ways. I stay off social media. It's not healthy. You'll just punish yourself reading stuff from people, the keyboard warriors, who often haven't seen the incident at first hand." Speedway Star's Ben Findon spends a night in the referee's box with match official Wayne Jarvis.
PASSION AND CONCERN
"In my view, the sport is struggling to keep pace with the risks. We are simply riding too fast. Today's motorcycles are roughly 20 km/h faster than they were 20 years ago and I don't believe this extra speed makes the racing any more attractive for the fans. If the best riders were going slightly slower, others might be able to keep up, potentially making the races more exciting." Krzysztof Cegielski, the chairman of the Polish riders' union, talks rider safety.
CHAMP COOPER
"When the red lights came on, my first thought was, 'don't be a re-run!' – re-runs never go the same way, do they? It's an awesome feeling after a pretty wild one! It was an emotional rollercoaster to say the least." Cooper Rushen on his British Under-21 Championship success at Redcar.
